Anamorphic
I own traditional and my own “FasanellaScope” designed anamorphic lenses like ones used on Star Wars, Jaws, and other cinematic videos.
Here are some stills of my anamorphic lenses
Characteristics of Anamorphic Lenses:
SPACE - The most cinematic aspect of anamorphic lenses for me is how they capture space. Imagine shooting a spherical 50mm lens but having 2x lenses next to each other so you have the flattering aspects of a tight 50mm lens but the width of a 25mm lens. This allows one to use the same lens for wides as you do on tight shots, like a zoom.
RATIO: While traditionally widescreen with 2:39 aspect ratio they also can be used to get 16x9 style footage (like in the 2nd season of true detective).
BOKEH (background Blur) - Anamorphic prime lenses are beautiful since they create a waterfall blur in the background with oval out of focus areas vs spherical round blurs.
FLARES - My anamorphic lenses can have cinematic horizontal lens flairs or none at all based on project needs.
